Default Transmission Kickdown lag time

2000 2.7T tip. Car always felt on full kickdown it took some time to get moving. Dealer said all parameters were normal. Brought it in for 30,000 service and complained again and told them I had seen a service bulletin for the 4.2 that addressed the issue. When I picked the car up I was told it was low on fluid and it should be OK now. Was it!!!
It felt like a different car. It is flying. My point is I don't believe the car was low on transmission fluid for 30,000 miles and something else was done that they didn't want to tell me. I'm not complaining just curious whether or not you agree with me and if anyone else has similar problems.

I have a 2001 2.7T Tip and am having problems with the Transmission and turbo system. My problems are not the same as yours but see my previous posts for info. The car went in today for service but won't hear anything until tomorrow. they lent me a Ford Taurus (affectionately called a Jaguar S)!!

I haven't read the 4.2 Service Bulletins so my discussion may be off at a tangent...sorry.

A) I would hazard a guess that in your car they flash programmed the transmission control unit with the new Sport program. They may have determined that there was a software glitch in the original programming. The Service Manager at my dealership felt that that was the problem on my car (judder upon acceleration from dead stop and hard jolt upon acceleration from a rolling stop).
Does it stay in gear longer before it changes up (say more than 4500rpm or greater)?...in normal D mode not Tip mode. The change points will vary with the gear selected. Let us know.

B) I don't know enough about auto transmissions but perhaps there needs to be enough fluid to "transfer" certain forces viscously within the system and a top up restored the equilibrium. It could be as simple as that though I have no suggestions as to why the measured parameters were OK despite the low fluid.

C) Could there have been a bad torque converter?

D) You could have had the turbo bypass valve failure (you will hear some whining)or the throttle boody boot (Y boot) tear and not have realised it or both.

I am having a similar?? problem with my 01' 2.7. upon acceleration from a rolling start (<5mph) like at a right turn.... sometimes the transmission/turbo seems to NOT KICK IN ??? --very under powered at this timee. If I let off the gas totally for a 1/2 second...when this is happening... then the normal power comes back just fine.
Had the catr in for 5k service yesterday.... no response from the dealer --- "Looks fine to them"..could not duplicate the issue
Is this different than you are experiencing ???

Default Hate to say it, but what you've just described is the drive-by-wire throttle lag, which seems to

have been corrected in the 02's, but is present in all prior model years from 98 forward. When rolling to a stop, but not stopping, and then accelerating (whether in a turn or straight ahead), the gas pedal almost feels dead for about 1/2 of a second. The same thing happens if you come to a full stop for less than about a full second and then attempt to accelerate. It's frustrating, but as far as I know, it's considered normal for these cars.

Default Drive-by-wire throttle lag.

I have this problem also. I noticed it before my other transmission and turbo troubles. Can qksilverjc confirm whether his problems were only at low speeds (as Steve describes) or also at higher speeds?

If it was a low speed issue and the problem is now resolved, I would like to ask my dealer to apply the same solution on my car. Can you advise?
Thanks

Problem was at low or high speeds if I "floored" it. I didn't know what it was but I had the throttle lag also. what makes the most sense to me is that they reprogrammed software. I didn't notice a change in shift points but I'll look for it.
Would they have motivation to tell me it was low on fluid if they actually reprogrammed tranny?

My problem only happens at slow speeds... most at stop and "rolling starts. Dealer yesterday said couldn't see problem ...but heard of it before..and attributed/accused me of "left foot on brake syndrome?"---right !!! -- ( here we go with the unintended acceleration cop-out again??)

Not good news about "Normal " for the o1' and before models... can they reprogram something to mitigate the symptoms ??? --- S VAil
