with 10k miles on the car, I have to put in at LEAST 1qt about every 1000-1200 miles. No visible signs of leakage. Anyone else having the same experience?
I'm taking it in for service next week and will have them check it out. Should I go ahead and switch to synthetic at this point?

My car has similar oil usage after 15K miles.
I have repeatedly asked my service adviser about this and he tells me that this kind of oil consumption is within the normal range for the car. I don't really buy this. My previous A4 never used a drop of oil.

Yes, switch to 0-30 or 5-30...
It may not prevent all the burning (consumption 
but it should help and is probably a good long term idea for any car, but in particular, a turbocharged engine that may run a little hotter and work a little harder than a low-revving NA car.
I change mine every 5k...who knows if that is too much or too little, but I'm comfortable with that frequency...not comfy with 10k.

I agree with Finman
Go to synth. I went to Mobil 1 5w-30 at my first oil change (5K). I'm using 5w-30 only because I can never find 0w-30. I initially had some consumption (1 qt each time I had an oil change - 5K and 10K). However, in the last 8K miles (I'm at 19K now) I've had no oil consumption. I even had a two day track event since then.
As a note, unlike Finman, I am following the Audi maintenance schedule (I'm much too lazy
and have not had an oil change since 10K. I'm going in soon for my 20K.

With the high temperatures the oil gets from the turbo, you must use a synthetic oil as suggested
by Finman.
If you're still using the original oil, then what you say makes perfect sense, as it seems that oil burns more than regular (non running-in) oil.
