Default Unpostable!!!!!!!!!!!

Check your tire pressures, check your tire pressures, check your tire pressures! Why would I need ESP? Why would my car lurch rear-end first toward the curb upon the first gentle application of the brakes on snow? Because I DIDN'T CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURES AFTER HAVING THE SPARE MOUNTED AND A REPLACEMENT BOUGHT IN A TRIP TO THE DEALER! After my sledding adventure in my 2.7T I did, and I had 34psi in both front and 24PSI (!) in BOTH rear! Last time I checked I had all four set up at 38PSI prior to the onset of really cold weather, and I know I never changed the balance. Just illustrates what we all already know, you've got to check the pressures frequently.

Default Cool, you had the World Rally setup!

Maximum oversteer!

A Merc technician actually told my wife to go with higher pressure in front on her C230 because that old recirc ball steering is so crappy, and it seemed to help.

Default Similar situation (without the spin out) . . .

when I take my car in for service they always set the tire pressures really low (30/28lbs). Drives me nuts because the car weebles and wobbles so much with those pressures. This happened three times in a row. I have not bothered asking them to leave the pressures alone. I drive about a block and a 1/2 and pump them up to the 40/39~38lbs I prefer.

Maybe they know something we don't? Glad the spin out did not do any harm. Take care.

Brian

P.S. had the same experience with the turbo beetle. Pressures set to 24lbs and 21lbs (F/R)during service. I noticed visually before confirming with the gauge. Weird.

Default That's funny, they usually do the opposite over here

Because they assume (usually correctly) that people don't ever check their tires, they pump them up to the max rating on the sidewall. I am forever letting air out of the tires after a major service.

And FWIW, you always need to check the oil level after a change. Again with my wife's Merc, we took it to an indy shop and damned if they didn't overfill by a half-quart or so. I checked it a coupla times over a coupla days just so I was sure, and because I thought they might try to BS me when I brought it back, but sure enough the guy pulled the dipstick and said "Yup it's overfilled, let's put it up on the lift."

How is your tire wear with those (high?) pressures? Not flat in center?

Default Tire wear = no problem. Pilot Alpins with two seasons on them and they

still have a good 10 - 15K I would say. My Yoko AVS Sports have one more solid season in them after two long summer seasons. Tread wear has been very even and consistent.

I have over 30K miles on the car at this point. Hope this answers your question. These are not super high pressures. I have seen people here running 42-44lbs depending on their regular load weight etc . . .
