Easy to get to. Removes all boost. Compromise: insert the 2002 version, called 628...
That is what I did. Stiffer at high speed, smooth at low speed, and better consistency than the older 605 unit. Cost is below retail (which is about $146), from Ralf at sales@theracestore.com, or other Audi parts sources for full retail.

Your report implies that there's some sort of speed feedback into the relay. Is that true???
If it's really a relay, I would think it just turns boost on or off. Not trying to be argumentative, just curious and trying to understand the electronics/mechanics of it all.
In either case, sounds like it might be worth a try.
