Default Depreciation, questions

Hey guys, this is my first post, as I decided to register today. I am a MKIII Jetta owner right now while I work through college, BUT, I just want more car when this one is paid off, which, wonderfully enough, conincides with when I graduate school (1.5 years). Okay, so here's the question, to keep costs down, I know I am gonna want a pre-owned Audi A6 2.7T. Whats the average depreciation rate on these, in six-speed form? I mean, I am not gonna wanna pay more than around 30 grand for my next car (degree SHOULD get me a job where I can afford payments on that..hehe), but, I mean, given how much some of you guys' cars have depreciated, how many years will I have to go back from the current model year of that time (2003-04'?) to get in that price range?

I guess this seems like a dumb quesiton, BUT, I live in fort worth texas, and was in dallas last week, late at night. Happened to pass by Park Place Audi, and I just fell in LOVE with all the A6's they had on the lot. (Black Ebony Pearl/Onyx...mmmmm)and became convinced it was the perfect post-graduation car for me, a car for a professional. The A4 is more luxurious than my car, but not really conveying that sense of "moving up" that the A6 gave me that night. Okay, that seems weird, considering I am only 21 years old, BUT, well. Anyway, thank guys, any info would be appreciated. Oh, and WOULD purchase a warranty on the car, so I would not be too worried about the turbos and stuff. Sorry for the long post guys...

Default IMO use the Edmunds website regularly to stay up to date on the....

market value of the model your interested in. That way you can price various model years and project what the cost might be around a year or two from now. IMO I would guess that a 2 or 3 year old 2.7T might be in that neighborhood, depending on mileage. But things can change between now and then.

FYI - Remember, due diligence and research on any used Audi 2.7T, ya never know when it might have been chipped

Default Graduate myself

The A6 was the car I bought after I graduated UT. My thoughts exactly on this being the perfect car after graduation. I bought a '98 A6 quattro (only the 2.8) for about 27,000 in Jan 2001 the car is now worth a little less than 20,000. So I'm thinking these cars depreciate value pretty fast so for 30,000 you should be able to get a pretty good model at a decent year.

The Audi will depreciate like a hot knife thru butter - don't worry about missing the market on these things - as long as the word "depreciation" exists there will always be a picture of an Audi next to it in the dictionary. And really what's the hurry to own an A6? - why do you have to show at 21 years old that youve "moved up" in the world - there's a lot of older folks who are pretending to be a lot younger - buy a new Civic which will last longer and cost less over that period and invest the rest of the money or travel the world which will give you memories for a lifetime. A used A6 Turbo will cost you a lot of money to repair and insure before you even hit 25 - secure your future first until you can really sit back and "afford" an Audi. Just my opinion.

I live in Dallas, and I can tell you that you would be lucky to find a good used 2.7t WITH a 6-speed in this area. LESS than 10% of the cars sold around here have a 6 speed, and then, to find the other equipment and color you want, would be almost impossible. That is, unless you were to find me in a good mood, and were able to buy mine.
