FINALLY--A6 Ordered; Soon to join your club.....
Well as soon as they build it. Final word on special order paint. It IS $1700. I validated it through AoA, the Exchange (where I ordered) and Champion Audi in Pompano, Fl..In those instances where a customer was charged $500 instead of $1700, it was an Audi error. Hopefully, they'll make one more. The car I ordered (it's final) is:

I saw an S6 in Atlas next to a 911 in Seal Gray and to my old eyes, almost indistinguishable. It should be a rare version. Thanks for all of the advice---now I sit and wait.

Atlas Gray is not available on a domestic A6. It's only offered in the S6Avant. A customer can special order any Audi in any worldwide color not available in their country in their car line for $1700.
I tried for Achat Gray--it's discontinued worldwide.

The seems like a rip off
I don't know how I feel about that, but that feels like Audi ripping off the customers. If the customer is ordering a $50K+ and wants a paint color that's already avaibable on the same production line, then why do that to the customer?
I wish you only smooth road miles with this excellent car. But if you ever need any paint work for any reason, I wonder how you will fair trying to get the right color match with an out-of-country paint code?

Thanks--I negotiated elsewhere to offset the pain. Fortumately, Atlas Gray is an S6 color in the USA, so the paint shouldn't be a problem. I have a stepson who works at a custom body shop which deals in high end cars. I'm pretty comfortable with what they can do--I hope I never need to find out personally.
I look at it this way--it's a $500 leap from pearlescent white.

None of us know how many cranks of the key we have left. That's why I got ATLAS GREY. 292 people from my company probably cranked their key on 9/11. They can't any more. I,like most that post here really enjoy the ride. Now, I'm going to enjoy each day and each crank. I look forward to sharing the ride with people that really enjoy life.
