Default 00 4.2Q V8 sucks up rotors and pads at 33K????

OK, I don't mind the pads so much, but all four rotors?
This is some serious coin after the Q#@%#% maintenance warranty runs out in 36 months....

Common?

Car is NOT tracked or driven frequently above 100mph, just DC beltway/urban driving, average speed is about 25mph over the last 100 hours!!

My front rotors replaced at 10k. After warranty, I might go Brembo or Stoptech.

Default My pads and rotors like fine after 42,000...

and I've had my car on the track! Although, I do a lot of highway driving, I don't race up to stop signs & lights, and it's a manual. I guess that's the price you pay for that big V8 with an automatic ;-(

Default The rotors are crappy...some warp, some don't...they must run too hot for how crappy they are...

Definitely when a Brembo kit is available...both cars are getting a set

Default My S4 rotors were cooked at 24K, and I don't even drive that hard.

I've been saying this for 3 years. Audi brakes may have great stopping power, but they are the weak link in the chain. Basically they suck. They have no brake feel, can't be modulated with your foot, and at least in the S4 have a slow speed hitch that is really annoying.

This must be improved on the new S4. Audi should just outsource to Brembo, or at least make it an option for their sport package and "S" cars. For crying out loud, brakes are as critical to the overall sporting equation as anything else. I'M FED UP AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE...I WANT ROCK HARD PORSCHE BRAKES!!!

Um, sorry, kind'a lost it there. I'll be getting off my soap box now...

My 2001 A6 2.7T front rotors were replaced at 9K. Seems like a material/design issue to me.

Default Well no --my 4.2 has 47K, has been autocrossed and on the track, and nary a problem.

I'm pushing the dealer to change the pads before the maintenance coverage ends though. Heat em up, slam on the at stop signs, etc. and you will pay for it.

Default My '98 A4 needed front rotors at the 36 months service...

which the technicians gladly replaced for no charge as part of my last warranty service along with the front brake pads. Given I had to drive 32,000 miles to get to that point and I wasn't going to keep the car another 32K miles, I had no problem with it. I must admit that I did use the brakes a great deal to most of the miles being around town vs. highway.

Now, let's talk about my '95 Ford Explorer that had a rear brake caliper come apart and totally trash the rotor and itself about 2 weeks before it was to become "trade-in bait" for a Lexus RX-300. Then there was my '89 Taurus SHO that ate tires, pads, and rotors for breakfast (followed by a clutch and assembly for dinner), but oh that wonderful motor..... I could create a similar "list of grievances" for the GM products I've owned, but it's not time for Festivus yet.
