How come the bumper covers never match the car?

How come the bumper covers never match the car?
Is there any reason Audi doesn't match the color of the bumper covers to the car? They're all a shade off the main car color. It's not much of a job to match it, so how come they never do it?

Silver's a weird color. Very affected by differing view angles and surface textures.
Nobody makes more beautiful silver cars than the Germans, but it's a very difficult color to use on differing surfaces (differing by angle of view or by surface texture). Chances are, the paint was applied at the factory and was a perfect match, chemically.

but the main issue about the color matching
is paint on metal vs. paint on plastic. The adhesion properties are also different between the two, and this will directly effect the manner in which the finish visually presents itself.
The best compromise solution, if this really bothers you, is to stick with a non-metallic finish car. The match-up problems are more pronounced with the metallic finishes, because they are multi-stage applications. This is also true of any body work you might need.

Hmmm... I was sent many bumper covers when I bought the 02 with the cutouts.
Every one of them came from the factory in black, unpainted. Its more likely that a local body shop is painting-matching for your dealer. Possible they are not starting with a quality paint?
