PES Supercharger for 98 A6 Quattro
I purchased the unit used from an former A6 owner in GA. Received it, drove down to PA and dropped the car off. As part of the install, Jeremy noticed it was filthy and completely overhauled the unit, replacing a pulley, spacers and re-lubing for a mere $75. I picked it up yesterday and driving back to NYC from their offices gave me all sorts of driving to try it out. 2 lane, local highway, interstate and city.
It is exactly what the car needed. Off the line - what once was an anemic pull into traffic is a strong push. With the tip in D, applied pedal pressure equates to smooth acceleration instead of waiting. Push the trans to tip mode, drop to 3rd and floor it. It pulls hard from 70 to over 105 on the highway. Drop a gear in local traffic and you can jump into spots you would not even consider before.
The sound - more like a generator spooling up then the whine or howl mentioned in the past. I do not know how it performs compared to a 2.7 or a 4.2, but they estimate I am near 300hp, so I imagine it will fair well.
On a side note, I have my orignal GIAC engine and tip chips for a '98 A6 for sale. Originally $550 for the pair and even though there is no "wear" I would certainly consider offers of less. They give much reduced shifting times and greater throttle response (+10hp).
