Default Not that no.radar cares, but the saga for my wife's A6 Avant took an interesting turn...

Got a call late last night from the dealer, actually two calls, and he left me his cell phone number to call as possible, no matter what time. The performance ended at 11:00 so I called him at 11:00 and was told that in all the years he has been in the car business, he's never even HEARD of what happened that night. Apparently, the porter was driving the car (post-detailed) the 8 blocks to the gas station for a fill-up. A Range Rover stopped right in front of him and he slammed into the back of it, crushing the bumper and crumpling the hood ($3,800 in damage I find out today, plus depreciation)!! Obviously I'm not going to buy this car, but luckily for me the dealer stated such before I did, so I didn't sound like a jerk. Now we had to find another car...

If any of you remember the discussion a few days earlier regarding the decision on silver/black or beige/tan (with the sunshades), we went with the silver/black w/o sunshades even though we really wanted them. Well, now we are getting a silver/black A6 3.0 Avant, same packages, plus ski bag (whoopee), wineglass wheels, and sunshades! Getting it from Northern CA so I had to pay not only for the 'extras' but also part of the $650 shipping fee (we pay $300, they pay $350). We will end up paying an additional $700 all told, so it sucks for that, but I guess we're getting the car we really wanted in the end anyway. Too bad this happened and our car ended up costing us more, however, but there wasn't much we could do.

Hope to get it Wednesday, possibly Thursday, just in time for the wife's birthday.

Consequently, the porter was canned...

Default Nope, because we talked about what it would cost to buy the wrecked one

and he thought I was serious, even though I wasn't. It's an awful substantial discount, but rightly so, and I don't exactly want to get into a car that has 96 miles on it and one fairly substantial accident...

In addition, we're talking 2002 Avants here - not exactly the hottest car on the lot. The other option he gave me was $250 above cost on a 2003, but because of the Audi incentive, it was a good $2000 more than the '02, plus not all the packages are available on the '03's that are on the '02's.

Default How about this?

Since a black cloud seems to be hovering, why not just rent something from Enterprise for a month or two and then figure out what to do/get?

Default Actually, this works out best, because we really wanted those stupid sunshades

The ski sack will come in handy, and I like the wineglass wheels more than the standard ones, so all's well in the end, just a bit more expensive...

Why don't you fly up to SFO and drive it down?

Default I offered that as an option - would be a beautiful drive, but I don't have the time, and the dealer

won't allow the transfer to take place there - has to be either at the dealership or the salesperson has to be with us, whether that be SF or he brings it to my wife's workplace.

I know - that's why we want them, I call them 'stupid' for what we went through to get them!
