UH-OH! I think I broke it!!! Should I still try or wing it?
So now, it takes 4-5 weeks to get an appt with this dealer. Should I leave the GIAC chip in and hope they don't notice (and run the risk of them voiding my warranty) or try and get the chip replaced, and then waiting a few more weeks for another appt - besides pissing off the service guy by not showing up. Would the dealer really notice the GIAC chip and would they actually do anything about it? Any thoughts?
Thanks!!!!
-btw. Is there some trick to getting the ECU compartment plastic cover off besides taking out the screws? Something's just hanging it up in the back. Thanks again!
At least if they know #1. above and reset it, you'll have something to fall back on the get them to replace your chip (possibly)...
As far as the ECU cover... the trick is not to bother with the screw in the back, undo all the other screws and just lift it up like a clamshell and unclip and pull out the ecu, there is plenty of cable.
If you are socketed you probably did not get the chip seated properly. If you are switching ecus just try it again... you may not have actually gotten a secure connection. I have pushed the slider over and it doesn't catch. Also if you are using a seperate ecu have a look at the pins.
Good luck, I suggest you cancel your appointment until you get it sorted out.
. I decided as well not to take it in tomorrow - especially since it sounds like they won't do the plugs - eventhough he said they would. One thing I did do today was to clean the mass airflow sensor. Absolutely amazing!!!! It's like I chipped the car again. Anyway, thanks again for the insight and confirmation that I should wait.
It sounds like you have an '01 which means you have to get the instrument code from your chipped ecu, send it to a dealer and then get them to generate a new code to enter into the stock ecu. APR has an immobilizer clone that you can use...but, sorry, it only works with APR chipped ECU's. I would contact the people you purchased the chip from, or you could just be honest.....
