Default UH-OH! I think I broke it!!! Should I still try or wing it?

so I have a 9am appt to take my car in for it's 30K service (along witha 2 hour drive there). I have a GIAC chip. I decided to pop the stock chip back in. NOTHING! Could not connect. I re-seated it, and still nothing. 5 gallons of sweat later, I popped the GIAC chip back in, and THANK (whatever you believe in) it came back to life. I cleared the power code.

So now, it takes 4-5 weeks to get an appt with this dealer. Should I leave the GIAC chip in and hope they don't notice (and run the risk of them voiding my warranty) or try and get the chip replaced, and then waiting a few more weeks for another appt - besides pissing off the service guy by not showing up. Would the dealer really notice the GIAC chip and would they actually do anything about it? Any thoughts?

Thanks!!!!

-btw. Is there some trick to getting the ECU compartment plastic cover off besides taking out the screws? Something's just hanging it up in the back. Thanks again!

They will know its chipped. They may inadvertently reset your chip during service if they do not know it is chipped. Thereafter, you will no longer be "chipped" Best to 1. tell them you are chipped and not to reset your ECU. 2. Call/email GIAC and ask how to reinstall the original chip... Didn't they give you an instruction sheet when you had the chip installed so you could switch them back and forth??? Good Luck...

At least if they know #1. above and reset it, you'll have something to fall back on the get them to replace your chip (possibly)...

Default Do you have a socketed ECU or two ECU's..

The dealer will notice the chip, the difference is dramatic between stock and chipped for a 2.7T.

As far as the ECU cover... the trick is not to bother with the screw in the back, undo all the other screws and just lift it up like a clamshell and unclip and pull out the ecu, there is plenty of cable.

If you are socketed you probably did not get the chip seated properly. If you are switching ecus just try it again... you may not have actually gotten a secure connection. I have pushed the slider over and it doesn't catch. Also if you are using a seperate ecu have a look at the pins.

Good luck, I suggest you cancel your appointment until you get it sorted out.

So there is a screw in the back!! Phew - I was starting to think I should trade in my A6 for the "short bus" . I decided as well not to take it in tomorrow - especially since it sounds like they won't do the plugs - eventhough he said they would. One thing I did do today was to clean the mass airflow sensor. Absolutely amazing!!!! It's like I chipped the car again.

Anyway, thanks again for the insight and confirmation that I should wait.

Default your problem in two words....

Immobilizer III

It sounds like you have an '01 which means you have to get the instrument code from your chipped ecu, send it to a dealer and then get them to generate a new code to enter into the stock ecu. APR has an immobilizer clone that you can use...but, sorry, it only works with APR chipped ECU's. I would contact the people you purchased the chip from, or you could just be honest.....
