Default The question about lower down A6 Quattro

Hi, everyone!

My car is 2002 A6 2.4 Quattro GP and I lived in Taiwan. I'm just considering lower down my car about 30mm. Due to most aftermarket Suspension lowering kit will feeling harder than original one. It most like H&R, KW, Belstin.......

Does any brand lower suspenstion kit will feel more like original one and also can lower down the car about 30mm??

At mean time, does any bad result after lower down the car? (It just like, easy causing suspenstion damage or something else??)

I'm very appreciate, if you can give me any comments. Since I am not easy to find A6 Quattro user's experience in Taiwan.

Thanks in advance!!

Default some answers...

from my experience, the so called "softest ride" can be found with coilovers on a very low spring-rate setting...faster/higher spring rate = harsher, but more supportive and stable ride. ive noticed normal suspension upgrades are harsher than Coilovers...but I may be wrong about this. I am not too familiar with all the suspension kits out there...the softest i know of is the factory sport suspension offered for the A6. Im sure others will be glad to shed some light on this.

The only bad results with lowering a car are:
somewhat harsher ride (depending on what suspension you get obviously)
and you need to watch out for those dips and speedbumps (if you dont watch out for these, its all to easy to bottom out the car)

I have the KW v2 coilover kit...and i absolutely love it. yes, its harsher than stock, but I found stock to be a bit of a boat ride. suspension lends itself well to having more fun with your car too!!

sorry i couldnt be of more help regarding aftermarket suspension feeling more like stock suspension...I just dont know if thats possible :0)

Default If you lower a car, you must increase the spring rate.....

or it will "bottom out". THis is because you have removed some of the designed suspension travel so if you used stock springs shortened, you would run out of suspension travel with any weight in the car on a bumpy road, this would be very dangerous at speed in a corner.

When the car bottoms out in a corner, you loose adhesion with the road, not good.

Ride quality is a compromise between springs and dampers. Lowered springs which are generally harder, need firmer damping to supress their more rapid response to bump and rebound so it is very difficult to lower a car by 30 - 40% of its full bump suspension travle without loosing comfort.
