Default Help please, control arm issue?? Going out of warranty in April.....TIA!

Our A6 will go out of warranty in April, lately we noticed strange noises from the front left suspension, squeaks/rattles going over bumps, sounds almost like a loose shock. Recently we got new tie rods, I wonder of this might be the control arm? Any reports from '00 models wit this problem? I know there is a history, do '00 have the improved version already?
Also, with 27,000mls should we change the tranny fluid?
TIA with any insight.

Default Not sure, but I have some weird noises from the front driver side also...

Only seems to happen when I start driving, or perhaps it is the crappy state of my street. Hard for me to tell since I just had new shocks installed AND got it back from an accident.

My '00 front end is "noisy" too, but at 47k miles. New car arrives in weeks so I'm just leaving it.

Default Welcome to used Audi ownership.

Post-'92 Audi suspensions are known to make lots of noise. If they have rubber bushings on the joints, the rubber wears out and you get a metal-on-metal squeak.

On newer models with the aluminum parts, Audi neglected to even put a rubber bushing on, so once the aluminum wears down (40-60k miles it seems) the joints start to squeak. Only solution is to replace them. Brilliant design.

On my '96 with rubber joint bushings, I've replaced 4 different bushings/control arms. But, no more squeak!

Salt and road grime accelerate the deterioration.

Default My A6 is at the dealer for the same problem.

They replaced the tie rod ends last October, noise only started after that. I'll let you know tomorrow what they said...

Default And the verdict is..

Replace upper guide link
R&I mounting bracket
R&I strut
R&I upper control arm

Why this started after they replaced the tie rod ends..who knows? The noise is gone,

Default IIRC, the issue was resolved from MY00 and up. That was the story for the Passat and A4 which share

the same front end components in respect to the multi-link setup.

I had a 2000 Passat and never had an issue, however, several friends with older ones did have many control arm problems.
