Speaker help needed

I have searched through the archives and did not find the information I was looking for so here it goes. My father has a 1998 2.8 A6. It is a non-bose stereo with an audi symphony head unit. He is trying to put some new speakers in the front but does not know the size that can fit. He was told 6 1/2" from one installer and 5 1/4" from another. Which one is it? Thank you for your help.

I installed 6 1/2 mid/woofers in the front doors of my '98 A6 2.8 non-Bose. I did not have to drill or cut anything! They screwed right into the existing screw holes.
