Does anyone know if the Pilots are noisier than the Dunlop 5000's?

Default Much depends on the road surfaces in your area. I have the pilot sports . . .

and they are relatively loud. Personally, I find tire noise to be very subjective. The pilots are firm both in structure and material. The road noise has been fairly constant over 9K miles in my usage experience.

At least in my case, they are louder than the Yoko AVS Sports I have used. However, neither tire is loud enough for me to care. Around here (MA) the road surfaces can make even the most compliant touring tire emit more than average noise.

All of this to say, its been my experience that a high performance tire will have a higher noise component than other rubber. Its the combination of tread pattern, composition, and structure. You are most likely talking minute differences in actual decibel measure. So it comes down to personal preference/bias and experience.

I agree. ALL performance tires are louder than AS tires.

Default Yes, they are on the loud side. However, the grip and feedback are great !

Makes your car feel like a go-kart.

Depends what you want. Dunlop SP9000 is quiet, but has a softer sidewall ( slower turn-in ). SP8000 is a little firmer and louder - a bargain though.

Toyo T1S hums, but doesn't thump or twang over road irregularities like the Bridgestone S03. Both tires are a step down in road feel from the Pilots, but are more comfortable everyday tires than the Pilots.

Yep and I agree that the grip/feedback (April) make the noise damn well worth it. B.
