Default Bumper Problem Resolved...

About 10 days ago I posted pictures of my car's bumper that was considered fixed by the dealer. Thanks to the response from this forum, (no way good enough), I continued to pursue the issue. The bumper will be replaced. . This was not a recall issue. It was within Audi parameters. The car was bought used and the salesman said the bumper would "fit". Not in writing. However, the justification to continue this thing was strengthened here. Thanks all.
One more thing. Does anyone have sugestions on securing front plate without having to drill into the bumper? We have to have front and rear in CO.

Default Yikes!!! Looks like my car...

Which is in the shop this very minute! Heated steering whell no longer working, pop up headlight washers not working and the now famous BUMPER COVER recall is being administered. They had it all day but said the bumper deal was about a 6 hour project. They weren't sure if it invovlved a whole new bumper or not. So, when I get it back I will certainly be looking for gaps such as this! Especially since the two trips to the dealer have resulted in 1.) Scraped BBS wheel and 2.) Golf ball size dent to the rear quarter panel! OMG! What will it look like the third time in the shop with the bumper cover being "fixed"??

Tune in later for the final verdict!

Default Front license plate options....

I keep my front plate mounted to the bracket, but in the trunk of the car so if I am pulled over, I can say it just fell off.

Or you could try this--click here

Name that dealer so we can avoid it like the plague.

Default I just keep the plate near my seat when in "plate critical locales"...I'll toss it up on the dash if

pulled over. Hasn't happend yet, but I'll be sure to post if it ever does.

Default Dash doesn't count, technically. Plus, tossing it at the last minute will show that...

... you were aware it was illegal. May get you a ticket instead of a warning.

Default It has worked for a friend of mine. I'm willing to bet against them having seen it in the

corner of my dashboard vs. rigging up a contraption every time I venture into San Francisco or Palo Alto.

If I venture into SFO for an evening I run a prevent defense by just tossing the plate onto the dash as I exit the bridge into the city...no big deal and no tickets or warnings thus far.

I'm not discounting that it might happen, but the 20 seconds spent grabbing the plate from the trunk and slipping it onto the dash for a couple hours is easier than spending the initial hour-plus building the rig plus the 10-20 minutes per event to install the gear onto the front of the car...

I'll count myself lucky thus far and deal with the inevitable consequences as they present themselves...just like I do in my otherwise lucky and irresponsible life?

:-)

Default NYC requires both plates too, but you wont find it on my car...

SnowyToy too kindly sent me a plate mount which I now have in my trunk. Story goes as follows:

"Hello officer, my original plate mount got knocked off, so I had the dealership order a new one. Which I have by the way, its in my trunk. However, they ordered the wrong one. So I am waiting for the correct plate bracket. The one I have wont mount to the car."

At worst, you'll get a two week repair notice. If and when this happens, hang the plate on your bumper with any kind of twine, take a picture, and send it in with the repair notice.

I've had the car since January, now going on 3 1/2 months without a question or even a glance by a police officer. I am sure it will happen eventually. Even then, if I get hit with a ticket, it such a minimal amount I'd rather pay it then drill holes in the bumper cover.

Default You need to go find a new dealer pronto...

I'd have a fit over that mistreatment of my car.

Default Of course, the car looks great w/o the front plate ...

but its an easy excuse for a police "stop" when they see you coming out of a bar.
