Default Suspension for 2.8 (a few ?'s)

So I contacted Shox.com yesterday to obtain information about shocks, coil overs and springs for the 2.8. They recommended springs only, stating the car would lower a half inch!? and also said Eibach did not make coil overs? I am now officially confused¿

So I guess my questions are:

I thought just springs alone was a no no for the 2.8 and I thought they lowered between 1.3-1.5 inches, not a lame half inch.

I thought Eibach made a "Pro Kit" but what exactly does that involve, coil overs without adjustability (so basically the Eibach Springs with Dampeners?)

I contacted them for info but left more confused then I started.

I dont want to f***k up my ride (especially considering labors gonna cost more then the shocks or whatever...)

Who has done suspension modifications on a 2.8 (2.7T'ers as well as I understand the 4.2 is a different kit due to the weight of the V8). I'm trying to narrow down what I should get for my specific auto (1998 2.8 quattro) and how much I should figure is reasonable.

I am mainly interested in Eibach, since this is what I beleive Audi specs OEM on its sports packages, plus I like how lower 2.7's look (and I like how they feel, when shopping for 4.2's I have tried many 2.7T's).

All suggestions, explanations and instruction is welcome. Thanks to all.

Default eibach

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/49309/sig2optimum.jpg"></center><p>most springs are made by the same company however, audi part or not, i have been using both eibach and bilstien for years on bmw m3`s and also mb.c36, so in my opinion, h &amp; r is a more reliable setup. ,isuggest you get a set of koni gas adjustables. do your research<ul><li><a href="http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AR4&amp;url=%2Fsuspension%2FSusptabl.jsp%3 Fcategory%3DSprings%26amp%3Bcategory%3DShocks%26am p%3Bcategory%3DKit%26amp%3BautoMake%3DAudi%26amp%3 BautoModel%3DA6%26amp%3BautoYear%3D2000%26amp%3Bbr and%3Dall

Default Hmmmm...That goes against what I've seen here. Way more problems with konis/HRs etc.

than bilstein or eibach. As far as dampers go of course. No real problems with the springs, although some say the Eibach pro-kit springs settle too much.

Default I'd go with Eibach pro kit dampers/pro-kit springs or Bilstein sports/Eibach springs (what I have)

or you could try AWE's new setup with Bilstein sports/HR springs. The Bilstein sports are actually the same for the 2.7T and the 2.8, they are only different for the 4.2 from what I understand.

I've never ridden in a car with the full Eibach setup, but if I had to guess I would say it is probably a little less firm than mine. Every sport sedan I've ridden in with Bilsteins has a fairly firm ride. Hope that helps a little, maybe Dallas could elaborate on his suspension setup.

eibach used to have a reputation for sagging more in the rear of the car...do you still find this to be true? Anyone with Eibach's run into this problem? Please advise, TIA

Default I agree with you, it gets more confusing!

Shouldn't the setup on the 2.8 be like the 2.7t since the engine weight is the same? I can see the 4.2 being a lot different because of the added engine weight.

Default The rear of my car is a little lower than the front, but that's the way it should be IMO.

Even stock, the A6 is slightly lower in the back.

Default I just had the Eibach "Pro System" (springs + shocks) installed.

Results were terrific on my 2000 2.8Q. Amount of drop was around 1.5". The "Pro Kit" is springs only; "Pro System" is springs + dampers. After doing the research, I was as confused as you are regarding whether or not to do springs only or springs + dampers. In the end, I decided to do both only because it was "safer" in terms of the results; I knew that I'd be happy with the results of doing both, but it was questionable whether or not doing springs only would produce acceptable results. In the end, it cost about $460 more to do the whole job, and I could not be more pleased with the results. The car looks great but more importantly, ride and handling are HUGELY improved. That's right - ride AND handling are both improved. All signs of "floatiness" are gone, the car stays flat in corners, I don't have to brake as much, and it feels great. Sure, bumps are more pronounced, but we spend more time driving on relatively smooth pavement than we do driving over bumps! BTW, I bought my Pro System from Shox.com for $699 and was very pleased with them. They shipped immediately, and I had everything in just 2 days.

Default I have KW, got the coilovers used from a 2.7t owner

Went right on. Ride is smooth, bumps are pronounced but not harsh. I wanted adjustability, I think I'm going to go another 1/2" or so down with mine, I need to replace my upper links so while I'm in there I can pop out the coilovers and turn them down.

I don't know what kind of crack the guy was smoking, but Eibach is about 1.5" for the pro-kit springs, the dampers are definately needed if you don't want to be pulling them off again in 6 months to replace your blown out shocks.
Coilovers without adjustability are shocks and springs =ş
