Default Still Prefer my chipped 2.7T

Just drove the Volvo S60R in the performance driving experience in NY. I was able to spend some time in the car since most of the group wanted to drive the automatic, and I literally had the 6 speed to myself. They had an autocross course set up so I did not get out of 2nd gear or above 4500 RPM. This car is more an S4 competitor rather than an A6 competitor. The car felt powerful and had great grip (18" wheels and tires), and a flat torque band, but the chipped A6 has more low end torque. The ' Advanced' suspension setting on the Volvo was great (progression was slight oversteer to slight understeer in corners). The cat is a single turbo inline five with twin intercoolers.

Default I spent most of my time in the wagon...

Our group only had a tip wagon, I really wanted to try the six speed. The tip on the S6 in my opinion is the best implementation of Audi has, but it is not a six speed.

It will be interesting to see how the R matches up to the S4 (you can't compare it to the S6).

I would have to say that the turbo lag would get pretty annoying, and the interior is as Ford as one can get. Though I hasve to admit that the black and natural leather looks pretty hot!!!

Default I drove the wagon as well as the sedan, each with the 6spd.

Very nice handling, stable in the corners. I agree with cnair regarding the handling dynamics. I felt the car was much more exciting to drive in the twisties than my A6 (even though I have modified my suspension). I may need an upgrade to 17in wheels and tires on the Audi (planned) to truly compare. The S60R had 18s and the V70R had 17s. Both felt similar in my quick test.
I prefered the "estate" for the rear seat legroom and storage increase as well as for the subtleness of the look.
As far as power, there is noticeable turbo-lag in the Volvos. Slightly more than in the A6. I wonder what a chip would add...? Volvo literature states 0-60 for S60R at 5.4 sec. V70R is 5.6.
The spaceball shifter has nice linkage, short throws, and a confidence inspiring feel. Feels more japanese than germanic in style and precision.
Price is nice, $37K and up. I need to drive the new S4 to compare directly, but at that price, it will be difficult to find an "equal competitor" for the Volvo.
Expected initial delivery in May. One fella had a deposit on one at MSRP for those interested.
