Sunroof Questions?
Yesterday was the 1st "sunroof open" day for the Avant and I was reminded of a problem I noted last fall. Does anyone else have a problem with a low frequency sound when driving in the 34 to 45 MPH range when the sunroof is fully open and all other windows are closed. I can feel the pressure in my ears and it is quite annoying. I have also noted that when the sunroof is opened there is a clunk behind the drivers head when the sunroof finishes it's opening cycle. Is this a problem or just the norm. Thanks for any input. Enjoy the weather. Bill

As far as the low frequency sound and the pressure; is normal. As far as the clunk, I can't help you out on that. I just had the motor replaced on my 99.5 Avant w/ 28k because the roof had a mind of his own. Some times it felt like working, sometimes nothing or I selected one position and it didn't obey the proper command.

It is very much the norm
You can read in your owners manual that you open the sunroof all the way, then turn the **** one click torward closing and this will eliminate the problem. If you want the roof fully open then you will have to crack a rear window, or go slower. Audi included a special "handout" with the owners manual because so many people were going back to their dealers with this "problem". It is quite typical for many makes with sun/moon roofs.

Brilliant analogy...that's exactly what it sounds like. A big ole Huey sitting on you butt. Glad it's not just my car but one of the charms of this car. I guess it's the price you pay for disrupting the laminar flow over the areodynamic shape of our German Gems.Thanks for the responses.

I never liked the looks of the deflectors on any car. I would hate to junk up the lines of my beauty. Just a personal thing...like owning a "Furren" car to begin with! ;-)

The clunk
Sorry I took a few days to get back. As far as the clunk go's, it does not happen in my '01 4.2. Go to the dealer and have the service manager sit in a lot car, then in yours to hear any significant difference.
