Crunching noise with braking.
I have a crunching noise with braking that has worsened over the past week. It occurs when pressing the brake pedal, even when the car is barely moving. Does not occur when the car is in park. Sounds more like it is coming from the brake pedal or the master cylinder rather than from the wheels. Front and rear pads and rotors were replaced within last 10k miles, and the car stops fine. Any suggestions?

Sounds like your pads are worn out.....
you can see them if you look through the spokes at the caliper. You will see the edge of the back-plate and then a layer of friction material. If the metal backplate is touching the disk, you need new pads.

Pads are fine--almost new. That was the first thing I checked...
Since I have the wineglass wheels, they were hard to see through the wheels, so I took the wheels off and the pads look fine.

It could be a stone or piece of gravel wedged against the disk or the stone guard has been bent and is touching the disk, but only as it all move slightly under braking?

A4's had a problem with lower ball joints creaking....
under braking and low inertia suspension travel - gentle bumps etc. It can be heard by bouching the front corner up and down, soemtimes it only occured when there was some side loading of the joint as well such as in a corner, but I have not heard of this issue with an A6 bfore but it could happen.
It is more of a low frequency creak à la Hamer House of Horror creaking door sound effects of the 70's.
