2001 A6 Brake Shudder
In the past a fed X to Len Hunt of audi seemed to work for problems. Is he still the VP? Anyone think just calling the Audi line will work. My wife won't drive the car anymore. Says it's tooo scary.
On the S6...the rears were ground once...and so far (6k later), no problem.
The ultimate solution is good aftermarket rotors and pads...
I claimed that they felt unsafe, and the service writer said that I should leave the car with him so they could make it right! I brought the car in this morning at 7:30, and I was out by 10! Silky smooth now.
If no luck here, I heard that porterfield pads have worked very well for some in eliminating the tendency to shudder over time.
Also, if you are going to replace your rotors but want to retain the HP2 calipers, check www.bira.org or DBA (forget who imports them, but do a search here). If you are going to go farther, check Stasis and Stoptech -- all excellent. There are also some dynamite kits using the Porsche "big red" calipers and rotors with custom brackets.
BTW, I don't blame your wife. There is nothing worse than mistrusting your brakes!!!

Brake shudder is a serious issue with these cars, and while there are multiple explanations, the one consistent answer is that it is not the customer's responsibility (as long as there is a warranty in effect).
