Gasoline

I really hate to re-start the entire discussion about which gasoline brand to choose, however . . . I live in Washington State, and have been using Chevron, mainly because of the positive mentions the brand receives on this forum. Later this week, I'm driving to Illinois and back. Having made this trip in the past, I am aware that Chevron is nowhere to be found along Interstates 90 and 94.

Therefore, which gasoline brand is preferable, assuming Chevron with Techroline is unavailable?

Have had good luck w/Mobil for years.

In my experience it depends on the locale...

Here in the DFW area I rely on Shell/Texaco and Chevron. The car doesn't like the local Exxon/Mobil gas but that brand was OK when I was in NEw Mexico. When I traveled to Denver, the 2.7 didn't like the Texaco there. A local (Denver) S4 owner directed me to an independent station with 94 octane gas.

This will open a can of worms...

I use Arco for about 90% of my gas (yes, because it's usually cheapest) and have never once had a problem (and that includes my 2 previous Audis-total of 450,000 miles!). I've driven my car up to Washington (from California), many times, using Arco all the way. I've used Chevron several times, and I can't feel the difference. My car is not chipped, if that makes a difference. If your just cruising down the highway, why pay more, even if you can feel a difference?

In SoCal. Union 76 is the only gas with no MTBE...

... They have switched to ethanol which my 94 chipped S4 likes the best of all other brands. I am also using it in my 4.2 basically cuz it has no MTBE which is a known carcinogen ( not that gas isnt).

I agree with Jim, it depends on the locale...

Here in Wash. state, I use Texaco, Chevron, or Shell. Personally, from past experience, I'd stay away from the less-expensive fuels such as Arco or BP. At any rate, buy the highest octane available.

I used Arco before I knew it sucked...and...

I immediately noticed that my GS-R felt "weak" or strained...just had no "pop" like it usually did...then I figured out after a couple tanks of Chevron and then another of Arco, that the Arco stuff sucked.

Same thing happened with USAF "base" gas...within 5-10 miles I could notice the car had no ***** anymore...very weird...

I don't use either anymore...even though they are 20cents/gallon cheaper...
