Should I use an OEM oil filter or a Gold filter from NAPA? Any pros/cons for either?

Not true. Most branded aftermarket parts "meet or exceed" OEM specs.
Even many "house" brands of parts ie. NAPA & CARQUEST are in many cases of higher quality than "OEM". I've worked in the aftermarket for nearly 20 years.

I understand many Audi engines run a quite high oil pressure requiring a specialized filter...
I'd really want to be sure the filter was up to Audi specs. for your particular engine, even though NAPA Gold filters are considered to be rather good.
My understanding that Audi/VW filters are made by the European company, "Mann", and are designed to handle the high-volume high pressure Audi oil pump with a bypass valve opening of 20-33psi, depending on application. You can get these from www.Audiquattroparts.com for $13 USD for the A6, for example.

I was going on information from this oil filter comparison study...
...that was done by someone not affiliated with any of the companies.
