Default CD Changer install in A6 Avant

Howdy:

I just bought a Panasonic DP801 8-disc changer and searched through previous articles for Avant installation instructions, but found none. Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,

Jose

Normal CD changer home in an Avant is left rear. Are the connectors back there? How about the metal mounting bracket, above where the tire change tool kit lives?

If this aftermarket changer will still fit in to the aftermarket bay, located in the rear-left compartment, you will find a detailed CD changer installation article in the tech section. It's about 25 minutes worth of work.

Let me correct that one typo-not "aftermarket" bay-that spot is where the OEM changer is installed.

A6 has Nav, so I'm thinking I should remove whole bracket w/Nav attached, look for changer audi cable, install changer into bracket, then put bracket back in. Does that make sense?

Default No, the cable is behind the...

open slot for the changer off to the right and wrapped in foam and secured to the car by a tie-wrap or rubber band. It's easy to find without removing anything.
Remove the foam on the end of the plug, pull the cable out and plug into the changer. Slide changer into the open slot and put the screws into the side of the changer (if you've got em). I don't remember how to access the extra 2 discs as the factory changer is 6 discs.

Default Remove bracket from the space, as suggested in the tech article

You will drive yourself insane, if you try to slide the cd changer into the rack, and and then bolt it in place. There is not enough space to work. If you remove the rack from the space, the whole thing should take you about 25 minutes or so.

Default I've done it in four different Audi's without removing the rack. Angled screwdriver.

It's a five minute job.

Default Make sure the CD player is set to the right angle...

there is a location switch on the exterior of the player to locate the angle the player will operate at (vertical or horizontal].
