Default Tire pressure for 235s

Just mounted a set of ContiContact2 235/45/17 on my 01 2.7T. What tire pressure should I be running? Any comments on these tires? Thanks

Default I'm running 39 front/37 rear on my 235/45-17 Toyos

When I had the S-03's I ran 40 front/38 rear.

It really depends on your style of driving, how much comfort you want (or are will to give up) and how much rim protection you want. The tire type itself is also a factor. Higher pressures guard against pothole wheel damage but sacrifice ride comfort. Higher pressures also help steering feel and sidewall stiffness for higer performance style driving. Again at the sacrifice of ride comfort.

Default I am quite surprised

The recommendations on my door jam are 38/42 for 205s and 34/34 for 215s. Judging from these data, the 235s should be running at a lower pressure since the wt of the car does not change but now you have more area (wider tires). I am running 32/32 right now but I will increase the pressure if that is the concensus.

I think the dooorjamb numbers are recommendations based on the standard tires available from the manufacturer. Different tires have different weight capacities and require different pressures to maintain the weight capacities.

There are a couple of ways to determine the correct pressures for your tires. Here is the one I use.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/53203.phtml</a

For me, best ride/handling combo was at 38/38. YMMV, of course.

39 is too high. Rough ride, and I bent a wheel in the midwest at39. No problems at 36-37.
