Default RS6 Brakes. Anyone look into installing these brakes on their 2.7 T or 4.2

on their A6 2.7T or 4.2? With the problems I've had w/ my rotors, I'm thinking this could be the way to go intead of say Stop Tec's.

Default I'd go with the Stoptechs. I have them on my 2.8 30V. I don't see how or why the RS6 brakes (more)

would give greater stopping power. If you choose the right package from Stoptech you'll be able to stop on a dime. I have 6 piston calipers up front and 4 piston calipers in the rear, with cross-drilled and slotted rotors both front and rear. It's a very expensive package but well worth it. I'd recommend it over the RS6 brakes.

Default If you've warped your rotors, I would replace them with a good aftermarket brand.

The Lucas HP-2 caliper design is good IMO. Why spend the extra money on something else? Especially, the RS6 brakes which are sure to be insanely expensive and not tailored to your car.

Default Some RS6 owners aren't that happy with their brakes, ...

from this RS6.com thread, primarily because of the small size of the 4 pads used per caliper. Apparently the small pad area makes them easy to overheat. The pic compares the OE RS6 pads to the pad from the Mov'it upgrade for the RS6.

Default I can confirm that it's possible to cause the RS 6 brakes to smoke without too much effort.

I've sometimes had a bit of an odd smell coming off my front brakes, and the rotors have gone a bit blue, but I can't top what my business partner did.

He took a guy who's into dragging at Santa Pod (he's got a BTCC style Cosworth he races) out for a little demo in the Avant. After a couple of hard braking runs (one 120 to 20 and one 140 to 0), the front brakes were giving off a lot of grey/blue smoke, this continued for about 5 minutes.

Thankfully there seems to be no ill-effect other than the visuals and his brakes appear to be working as effectively as they were before.

Oh, and mine squeal like a little stuck piggy just before I come to a stop, which is annoying. :-(

Default do the stoptech shriek like the stock pads?

Because my car has a tendency to sound like a subway car coming to a stop.

Default It shouldn't. Just grease the back of the pads and it will stop...or have the dealer do it.

Several stops from 60-0 could also help.
