Help!... Electrical probs w/ my A6
My A6 is blown-fuse happy right now. It's fuse #14, which is the dome/overhead lights, which really wouldnt bother me that much, except that when the fuse blows the power to all windows and the sunroof also goes. Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so, is there an easy way to fix it? If not, how much did it cost to have a dealer fix the problem? Also, I bought the car used and I noticed a couple other fuses were missing (11, 17, 18, 36, and 44) however all the stuff they supposedly control still works. Do you guys all have fuses in these slots? Is it possibly detrimental not having fuses there? Thanks, I'm really not much of an electronic guru and appreciate all the help I can get.

What year is the car? You can put
a 12v test light across the fuse contacts and start unplugging devices on the circuit (power windows, dome lights, etc.), also shake and twist (firm but gentle) the harness at any point you can grab it to check for shorts. The test light will flicker or go out if you have found the offending device or area of the harness that may have a problem. Be careful at the dealer with this one as depending on where they start you could be looking at many hours of labor. I fixed a car that had a penny stuck in the lighter socket and it took a couple of hours to find it! I own 2 A6's, 96 & 97, I'll check fuse locations for you if we have similar years it could help.
