Whine from fan--solved...
Thanks to njs27t a week ago for correctly diagnosing my 2.7t's whine--not turbos, but the right aux fan was jammed, causing the left fan to go into hyperdrive. Pulled the offending rubber gasket out today, and both fans now work fine.
Now, assuming no euros were spent for the fun of it, what does that piece of rubber gasket do? Is it worth replacing?

Spotted it jammed in the left side of the (right, aux) fan with a small focussing flashlight. I unscrewed the air intake to provide a little more room, and just reached waaay down, grabbed it, and pulled it out. It is possible to get 2 hands down there if you don't mind a few scrapes.
I'm not sure where it belongs, but it was clearly out of position, and a bit chewed up. Guess I'll just show 'em on the next service.
