That is pretty much the name of it. One fell off of my 2000 A6 about a year ago. I got the replacement from the dealer - you just need to have it painted - it easily snaps into place.

There is actually a recall on these covers - they install a reinforcement to ensure they remain on.

Do you happen to know the recall for this? A buddy of mine lost his off his 1998 and really, I'd rather NOT find mine missing one day

Thanks.

Default Recall information for headlight washer caps

My understanding, the dealers have been replacing these caps at AoA cost all along. The problem
is that the mounting arms on either side of the cap are flimsy, and subject to enough flexing that they can stretch right off the mounting ***** that the they are affixed to. This does not even have to be in a moving car, I lost one of mine in a car wash (subsequently recovered in good condition).

The recall that fixes this job is the current LQ recall. There are several corrections the dealers are making to the cars, but the washer cap "fix" is one of the. Apparently, there is a retaining clip that Audi has developed, which holds the cap arms in place on the *****.

On the other hand, if you don't want to bother with the dealer, most people here have found that they can secure the caps to the the washers, using small nylon tie-towns, which are wrapped around the arms to provide for a rigid fit. You just have to be sure that you position he ***** so that they don't hang up on the bumper access holes on the way up or down. It's an easy fix.

Default But how do you access them?

I tried pulling up on them with my fingers but they wouldn't budge. Do I need to apply more force?

Default Get one of those gopher whackers from an arcade. When it pops up...&*$@&(%

Sorry, couldn't resist. I don't have the real answer. Maybe turn them on and have someone stick a popsicle stick under there or something so you can the get the cover off?
