Default Quick update on the commuter-car situation...

The wife and I are getting a bit p*ssed at our proposed builder of our house in Phoenix...so we may be bagging that guy altogether. We are considering getting a "cheap" place and buy some land to build the "ultimate" house within a couple years or so...
So, what this means is that we may well not be living so far away from work plus the financial restriction will not be so significant...thus allowing more options in the commuter-car selection...
The wife thinks I should get the S4...but I don't think it will be around soon enough for me...so if not, tops on my list may be the 330i performance package, or even the M3...or the G35 coupe (6-speed)...
Don't know yet...going back to Phoenix next week to resume the search...

Too many M3s around, plus their engines blow. Skip it. Hit the S4.

Default Too hot there for a convertible? 330Ci is a sweet car, and you'd have space for me and the Missus

when we visit!

We were checking a 330Ci out yesterday and thinking how nice a replacement it would be for the Z3....though pricing one out on BMW's site was a bit frightening...

Default Yeah, I'd definitely consider it...

I always thought it was kind of a girlie-car...but I could probably get past that...I drove a girlie red CRX around for many years!

Default I think the S4 will be awesome...but...

only a couple drawbacks...
1. I really hope Audi has done something with the manual gearbox...in all other Audis I've driven with a stick, I hate the marble-bag imprecise manual shifter...it annoyed me with virtually every shift. Hopefully, this has been fixed.
2. Styling...is somewhat "blah" to me...while I really like the A4 styling, I think they blew it with the S4...same ol', same ol' Avus wheels and essentially the same grille from the S6, plus NOTHING to make it look a little more burly or masculine...not looking for a lot...but something would have been nice.
3. Timing...I think it might be coming too late for me...maybe not though...

All in all, though, I'd love an S4...340 hp and a stick in a smaller car should be awesome...will definitely look into the possibility...

Default My how things have evolved. You started out looking for basic...

... but interesting transportation so you don't beat the hell out of your S6, and you have evolved to the point where your "beater" (an exaggeration of course) is going to be the functional equivalent of the S6! Hey, what about the S6?!

Default Yeah, things will probably evolve again ;) but, this is where I am now...

A lot of this depends on how successful or not we are next week and what our ultimate plan will be...it is very difficult to decide really as we are REALLY sick of living in "temporary" houses and would love to stay in the same house for 7-10 or more years...this 3-year crap is getting really freaking old...so we have some things pulling us toward going cheap now then building the ultimate in 2-3 years and other things pulling us toward buying or building the "near-ultimate" house now that will satisfy for 5-6 years but not likely for 10+. Ahhh crap...it'll come to us eventually...then the car decision is relatively minor...

Next week I'll probably post saying I'm getting a Hyundai!

No S6...already got one, don't need two...I enjoy it immensely, but I want a smaller car...and this one is really my wife's and it feels like it is hers...whenever I drive it, I feel like I am borrowing it...it's odd...

Default That is what I hear too...I hope it's true!

I want every shift to be pleasurable and sort of, unnoticeable...not to be reminded constantly of how crappy the shifter is...
