Small fan noise from within engine....Not siren like others have had
I just noticed this yesterday when I was driving around without the radio. Under hard WOT acceleration after about 4K RPM it sounds like a little fan goes on under the hood. Its making a noise like its hitting something as it spins. Its kinda quite but you can still hear it. Then after I drop below 4K it turns off. Also it only does it under hard acceleration and not just normal cruising with high rpms.
What could it be?

Staring at the engine bay from the front, look down and slightly to the right.
Make sure the fan is not hitting the black plastic pipe coming from the driver side intercooler. That would be my guess. Clearance is going to be tight no matter what, but there should be some clearance.
