Question about Clutch Service
I expect to buy an 01 A6 2.7 with a 6 speed transmission and sport suspension in the next couple of months. I searched the forum for posts on clutch wear, but still want to know what others have experienced, especially after about 40,000 miles. Having owned a 911 and a 996 C4S, I realize that driving technique will determine clutch life. Some could go through a new 996 clutch in a day or two if they do not engage it properly. What about the A6? Also, how much does it cost to replace a clutch?

My dad gets like 100k+ out of clutches I generally get around 35k.
I haven't heard anyone here needing a new clutch, but I'd imagine it will be quite labor intensive, may want to upgrade turbos at the same time or something if they have to drop the motor/tranny to do the job.

63k and going strong here. From what I've read and heard, wearing the clutch prematurely isn't easy
I've put about 20-30 1/4 mile runs on my car, but the majority of my miles are "old fart" miles. I engage the clutch at idle and rev-match my downshifts also.
My clutch is holding up fine, and from time to time I've tested it rather harshly (matting the throttle in high gear and giving the clutch pedal a swift kick to see if it allows the engine to flare up before re-engaging) Even with the X, the clutch still hangs tight.
After speaking with a few independant repair shops, the going rate is between $950-1250. My dealer wants $1600.
