How to replace window switches- '99 Avant

I checked around in the archive and couldn't specifically find the answer to this question. So, here goes:

I need to replace the window switch cluster on the driver's door. Can anyone who may have done this give me some pointers on the procedure?

If you don't have a nylon trim stick, wait until you do; A8 door

I haven't been into the door on the A6, but I have on the A8. And trust me, you don't want to be taking on any serious interiors project without a trim stick, you'll mess something up.

Simple, there is a hole under the switch plate near the door handle

Push an allen wrench up the hole and push, there is a catch to release in there and the plate comes right out.

A6 door panels are removed by taking out the front and rear screws, along with the window switch and then by pulling straight up. Much easier than the A8.
