You can use any lubricant (WD-40, silicon spray, etc), but the best, long-term solution is a small dab of axle grease to the hinge. The thinner oil-based sprays will work, but only for a few months.

White lithium grease works better than wd40 as a lubricant
at least thats my experience. I feel as if wd40 is more of a "cleaner" or solvent...you can maybe use the wd40 to clean it first than use the white lithium.
