2002 Audi A6Q Brakes problem CLARIFICATION......
Most of you were right - front brakes should work harder, wear faster and create more dust. In my car(A6Q 3.0) with All original, identical material and made in France brake pads (I leased the car brand new) the rear wheels have a lot more dust and the brake pads were worn out metal to metal at 18K miles which is VERY disappointing!!! Still have about 1/2 inch on the fronts. Other thing is that after replacing the rear brakes at the service center (car still in warranty), it was VERY hard to stop, like my front pads were replaced, not rears. After break in period, the car stops as it did before.
I am currently talking to Audi and will certainly update all of you as I progress with this issue.
Thank you all!
Alex
If you have a safe place to do it, try rebedding the pads. Make 4 repeated hard stops from at least 50 mph down to under 5 mph with no rest between. You want to be close to kicking on the ABS each time. Don't set your ebrake until things cool off after this. This should help if the pads are glazed. But if you have faulty brakes, it could lead to a wreck, so be careful where you try it.
I am convinced that there is something wrong with this car. The fact that I went the other day and drove another brand new A6 3.0 and it felt the same is VERY discouraging. I will go back and try 2.7T and 4.2 because I can't believe they are all like this. It is possible that something is wrong with the 3.0s ??? I don't know, but will investigate and will not stop till I don't have all the answers.
BTW your latest description is by far the most useful info you have provided - it clearly points to a problem with the fronts underperforming. So get the mechanic to look hard at them.

Where do you live? If it is near another AWer, you should have them ride with you to experience first-hand what you are describing. Many people on here could easily figure out what is wrong.
As an aside, I recently put new pads and resurfaced the rotors on all four corners of my wife's Explorer. When I went to test drive it / bed the pads, I was certain that there was a catastrophic failure of the braking system given the amount of fade in even a single high-speed stop. It turns out that the brakes were working fine, and that - spoiled by my Stoptechs - I no longer had any idea how the rest of the world was stopping their cars. Now that I know, I am more scared by other drivers than ever before.
