$1200. for water pump/timing belt ???
WOW! Is $1200(parts and labor) too much for a water pump, timing belt, roller, tensioner and serpentine belt...just wondering if I got ripped by Prestige Audi here in Denver???
1999 A-6 Quattro 2.8.
Getting only the timing belt changed is shorting yourself. The only thing that was missed by "fart" was the thermostat. He'll wish that was changed at about 100-110k miles.
Newy also got ripped pretty bad, especially if that was an independant shop.
As a new Audi owner, I am quickly learning how expensive this car can be to maintain.

Also, the cam seals and crank seal should be changed if they are leaking.
Not changing everything above (minus the serp belt items) is not a "good deal" at any price, IMHO.
The first step is: place the front lock carrier in the service position, which is Audi speak for remove pretty much the entire front end of the car. Figure about two hours labor for this and then two more to put it back on. This is not the case for the C4 platform, so those who are suggesting a lower price may be talking about an earlier model.
