Hey Finman - wanna turn my loss into your gain?
When I signed on with my present employer, part of the package was a very generous cash car allowance + a few cents for each monthly mile over 1400. As you know, I bought the red GTI as my daily communter in order to "save" the A6. The money they pay me each month for the car makes the payment, pays the insurance, and keeps the tank full. I basically break even AND I own the car once it's paid off.
Well, for a bunch of reasons (most of which actually make sense), they changed the car allowance program so that it's now nowhere near as attractive as it once was. I now have the option of getting my monthly allowance cut by about $200 OR getting a company vehicle, all expenses paid. Now I'm no brain surgeon, but I ain't no dummy, neither. About two months ago, I ordered a new Mercury Mountaineer AWD, pretty well loaded with moonroof, the mandatory running boards, etc. It should be here mid-June. Thus, the GTI goes on the block. I'll miss it, as it's really a terrific car. As for the Mountaineer, we'll have to see. It'll be my first SUV and I'm not particularly thrilled with the notion of driving one every day. It was the best of the choices I could pick from, though.
My red GTI is also for sale, since I'm replacing it with a company car.
The R7's are strong wheels albeit a bit on the portly side (27lbs in 17").
I had R7's on my S4 and liked them. No bends, unlike the AT Italia S5's that I have on my A6 (three replaced in two years).
