CD Changer for '00 A6 Avant - HELP
Help- I've searched and searched and can't find all the answers.... I'm facing a 900 mile drive in a couple of weeks and would love to have the changer...
What aftermarket cd changer works (plug and play) with the Premium Bose stereo?
Does the changer fit in the OEM mounting bracket?
Do I need an adaptor cable?
What additional mounting hardware is needed?
Will the changer work with the audio buttons on the steering wheel and the CD buttons on the radio?

Audi OEM product is a straight plug and play (cable in the left hand side of the boot). Panasonic CX-DP610 is the basically the same product but you will need to buy an adaptor cable. Sony, as part of their "Sony On Top" range also do a compatible product.

I installed the changer from Clair a couple years ago
I, too, have a '00 A6 Avant. My word of advice-forget, and don't even think about aftermarket changers. Only recently on this board, some member cited compatibility issues withe changers they bought. The OEM changer is made for Audi/VW by Panasonic, but at least you can be certain it will work, and fully integrate with all the controls on your head unit. Further, there is a detailed article in the tech section, how to install it-it's roughly 25 minutes' worth of work.
Remove the rear bracket from the left rear compartment, as the writer suggests: it's definitely easier installing the changer with the bracket out of it's box, than in.
