Default Replace CV Boot or whole drive axle?

Just found out last night that my driver's side CV Boot is torn and leaking grease. Should I just replace the boot or while I'm at it, replace the complete axle?

Per these instructions, the whole axle has to be removed anyways.

Also, where to buy a good quality "rebuilt" axle?
Thanks.<ul><li><a href="https://www.audiworld.com/tech/misc27.shtml">CV Boot Replacement instructions</a></li></ul>

Up to you. Try GPR or ECS.

Default Just do the boot.

CV boot failure is common, but joint failure is relatively rare (unless the boot is ignored). Drive shafts are much more expensive than a CV boot, and aftermarket or rebuilt quality may not be as good as OEM.

Buy the boot from the dealer; more expensive then generic, but better quailty.

the joint isnt making noise or damaged. Save the money.

Default Do you have the links for GPR & ECS?

...and those tips look pretty good. It sucks that I cannot drive the car right now, atleast not without damaging the CV joint!

That is why I want to take care of this ASAP!

Default Re: Just do the boot.

We know for a fact that "OEM Quality" boots tear around 50k miles. Maybe its time to try something aftermarket.

The product image on ECS-Tuning does not look OEM. Maybe GPR is &amp; carbonLord is correct about the price difference. $tealer is indeed the proper word.<ul><li><a href="http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/images/product/iadmin/941_x450.jpg">ECS Tuning outer CV Boot Kit</a></li></ul>
