If you think that the Ford Five Hundred looks like an Audi sedan, there's a reason...
In the Jan '05 issue of CR, which provides test results for the Ford sedan, it states the following in the introductory writeup of the article:
"The styling with its domed roof and large wheel arches, is reminiscent of Audi sedans - perhaps not surprising since Ford's design chief, J. Mays, came from Audi."

The styling similarities are conclusive, no doubt about it.
Not only on the outside...

...but also on the inside. There's no question that both interiors were done by the same person.

Of course, the Ford and Mercury don't come close to the Audi in terms of materials or fit and finish, but the styling cues are undeniable. I'm not yet sure how I feel about that, although I don't especially care for the idea of having a car that looks so much like the Five Hundred / Montego. It bugs me.
