2002 A6 Price Check
So far I've got them down to $26,500 and they don't seem to want to come down any more. $26,500 happens to be the KBB private party price. KBB says the trade-in value at a dealer would be ~$22,500. So based on these two number they would be making about $2000 profit (being that its my understanding it costs the dealer about $2000 to CPO a car). Granted this is based on the KBB trade-in value which I'm sure the dealer could have still got the car cheaper then that.
So do you all think $26,500 is good enough or should I try harder to get them to come down some more. I'm sure they have more room to play with then they are letting on.
For every $1000 off the price I would save about $18/month on the loan payment. Which I guess is not all that bad but adds up in the long run.
NOTE: The price is just for the car. Does not include tax, tag and title since its out of state. I figure I would have to pay a little less then $1000 once I get it home for those items.
For comparison the car has:
- Sports Package
- Preferred Luxury Package
- Convenience Package
- Rear Side Air Bags
- Navigation
- Front & Rear Heated Seats
The only thing missing was the premium package, go figure.
I had the car checked out and the body had no damage other than several scratches in the rear bumper. Mechanically the car was fine as well.
I searched for the car on AudiUSA.com under the CPO area and found several cars I liked. I visited a couple of local dealers (Long Island, NY - Legend and Anchor Audi; Connecticut - Audi of Fairfield) and none were heedful in finding a manual tranny.
I found a car at DCH in New Jersey and only stopped by because the dealer was near a friend's house that I was going to. They had an A6 with an asking price of $32,995. I never called them because I didn't want to seem too eager. The dealer had the car on the lot for over three months and wanted to get rid of the car. After some negotiations I was able to get the car for $28,800 which I believe only occurred because the car was a stick and was on their lot for three months.
I know this was long but I hope this helps...check the CARFAX document on the AudiUSA site to see how long they have the car...since it is a stick it might work in your favor.
Good luck....you will love the car...I know I do,
Tim
