transmission woes...
My 99 A6 Avant (2.8 with Tip) recently started "clunking" (harsh transition) when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. Upshifts are fine, and I notice no other malfunctions.
I dropped the pan and replaced filter/fluid ~6 months ago, checking level again after a couple of days. I find no evidence of leaks, and am assuming that fluid level is OK (being too lazy to make certain). Obviously I need to check fluid level.
I used VAG-COM to place the tranny in its "output diagnostic test" mode, and can hear all the solenoids click except for N92, N93, and N94. It seems unlikely that 3 solenoid valves have failed simultaneously. I pulled the 16-pin tranny connector and checked for corrosion, but found none.
Does anyone else have experience with DTM on these transmissions? Are these solenoids audible without pulling the pan? Any other suggestions?
