Does this used A6 look fishy?

Hello,

I was looking at a used 2003 A6 4.2 that is sold almost 8K below what edmunds.com specifies. I ran a carfax report and got the following info regarding owner history. Does that sound like a scam? The listing date for the ad is 11/21/04. Should I run?

sounds like either repo or salvage issues going on here. Could be legit, but?????????

it almost sounds like an individual bought the car

at auction through a "friendly dealer" - either an employer or a friend in the business - with the intent to re-sell. certainly the car seems to have been bounced around a bit recently, but with no real red flags in the mix. PA has a pretty tight watch on the reconstruction business, and unless the title is R branded, that most likely isn't an issue. i'd ask the man with the keys in his hand to tell you the (his)story, but if the car is as nice as it should be i wouldn't run away, and would most likely even cautiously proceed. to find a deal like 8K back of book there's going to have to be some sort of story that splits the original owner from the inate dislike of negative equity, but it won't automatically make the car unworthy. good luck, and take care. rob.

Check for oil problems

I just bought mine and it seems as thought he previous owner never changed the oil. I had to rebuild my 98 2.8 quattro

one additional thought...

assuming that the "auction" in question is manheim - manheim serves as the clearing house for repo. and lease turn in vehicles for both vw/audi AND many of the big lenders - that may factor in as part of this epic tale. r.
