Bentley repair manuals

How good are these repair manuals? Are there any alternatives, and what do dealerships use?

I have a 2001 Audi A6 4.2L quattro

They are okay, but...

sometimes the diagrams and description of the steps to remove something are lacking in the Bentley. I find that the best solution is to use the Bentley manual and info found in AudiWorld. Often, people post information about how to remove something, often with pictures (which are much more usefule than a drawing), and have tips about something the Bentley did not cover.

Bentley is the factory manual. VOA provides the content

while Bentley does the publishing.

Second that. They are the best.

But that doesn't mean they are very good.

The search function sucks and the diagrams are badly lacking.

They are great providing you already have a good understanding of how the car is put together...

they are NOT step by step, hold your hand, guide books. They are the repair manuals for FACTORY TRAINED techs.

I hate that they don't include part numbers

As Henry said...they are ok!
I have found them quite useful, but I'm no expert when it comes to this stuff.
Just don't like it that they don't have part numbers included.

Why would they want to include part numbers? That's what ETKA is for!

THe way the part numbers superceed themselves, the info woudl be outdated teh second you received your manual.

Repairs and parts data updated seperately. You could end up looking for out of production parts.

Ditto. Hardest to use and the search function like all software requires that you know the terminology before you start. Just like using Microsoft Windows Help.
