Thank you for your help on wheel decision(s)...
So, in the end, I am done with wheel changes, although carbonmLORD and others will probably say that they have heard that one before. I am sure something is gonna catch my eye and I might have to decide again. At least this one made me quite a few bucks...it helps to offset the expenses to-date.
I have actually done pretty well with wheels. Although I have only owned the car since late-January, I have now gone through 7 (yes, 7) sets of wheels/tires, including the 2 sets I have now.
1. Original 5 spoke 16" wheels with worn ContiTouring tires, sold for $750 via ebay.
2. OEM S4 17" Avus wheels from Hartmann's project RS4 car, bought for $1000, sold for $1200 after a month of use.
3. OEM 16" "sport" 6 double spoke wheels with Blizzaks, bought on ebay for $500, sold recently for $450 to lcal buyer.
4. OEM 18" Ultrasport wheels (my favorite), but needed spacers. Bought for $1400, sold for $1500 on ebay after my wife curbed a rim.
5. OEM 17" S-line Celebration wheels, paid $1300 for NEW from dealer, and $500 for new A/S tires.
6. OEM S4 17" Avus (again), this time for snows, bought for $500 from Achtuning (sold on consignment) plus $500 for new snow tires.
7. OEM 18" S4 Avus wheels, bought from Aw classifieds for $500, sold for $1100+ on ebay
So, the net costs to me over time is about $1200 (once you net out what I bought and what I sold) and I have 2 great sets of wheels!
End of rant. Back to work now...
I bought four 4.2 sport 17" polished wheels with new Continental ContiSport Contacts (from AW classified).
I sold my OEM 16" five-spokes to a Passat owner (via VW Vortex web site).
I bought five 4.2 sport 17" polished wheels with newish Kumho Ecstas from AW.
I swapped the Continental tires for winter tires (NTB).
I sold the Continental tires via AW classifieds.
So I end up with two full sets of 4.2 wheels, winter and summer, and NO EXTRA JUNK left in the garage.
The big winner? FedEx.
Bought unused set of RS 6 wheels with Dunlops mounted. $2000 FedEx COD to my door (love em).
Sold Pie Plates for $1150 shipped w/ full size spare.
I wonder what I'll get for the RS 6 wheels if I ever get those 19's?
1. Original 17 inch 5-spoke forged 4.2 sport wheels (sold with 4.2)
2. Original 17 inch S6 wheels (sold at some point for ~$850)
3. A second set of 17 inch S6 wheels (sold individual wheels to different people)
4. OEM 17-inch "pie-plate" wheels from the 4.2 non-sport (sold for same as I paid for the R28s ~$800)
5. Ronal R28 17 inch wheels (exchanged them for the pie-plates)
6. 19-inch 5-spoke OEM RS 6 wheels from Germany (paid $1700, plus $450 shipping including new Contisportcontacts)...still have and in need of curb rash repair...
7. New 18-inch Ronal R38s incoming this week (incoming, cost $1650 with Pirelli Nero M&S)
8. Brand new ContisportContacts...set of 4 cost me $100...used them up...
So, my wheel deals didn't cost me a whole lot either...and it was pretty fun really...
