CAN anyone switch a chipped ECU with a stock one?

Please explain your goal in swapping. ECUs can be swapped. The procedure varies whether
you have an immobiliser car or not. Pre-immobiliser cars are somewhat easier than immobiliser cars. You'll need a stock or chipped ECU with the same part number series (letter series like A box or K box).

There's a euro car meet coming up soon...
a point A to point B (from Sacramento to Stanford) then another 3-hour drive from stanford to ?, which consists of curvy roads. I dont have full details, once i do, ill post.
anyway, my goal is to find someone interested in buying an APR chip for a 2000 A6 2.7t (automatic transmission) at the meet (ill set up the deal beforehand, of course). ANd i was hoping it is possible to just swap the ECU's, without having to pay a shop to do it.
Im not sure when I'll be selling my car, if i do at all. But i might as well sell the chip soon, because my folks dont know about it and they might randomly want to sell the car or trade it in. So, if i can sell it locally, then i can just swap the chipped ecu for a stock ecu.

As April said, since you have a 2000 it's much easier.
Yes, you could do it during the meet since you don't have Immobilizer. But the person you're swapping with will also need to have the same ECU revision as you. These are transmission and generally year-specific. IOW, the other person should have a 2000 (or maybe an early '01) 2.7T Tip.
Sometimes 2 different revisions are compatible, but I can't remember offhand if, or which, apply to the A6. I know a couple of S4 boxes are interchangable. Best to play it safe.
You'll need the Torx driver and a VAG-Com to clear the codes, reset the ECU and do the throttle body adaptation after you're done.
