Default Looking to buy a used 2001 2.7T.. need some help

Hi! Guys I have been on the 1996 A6 forum for about 3 years now and I am looking at moving up and getting myself a used 2001 A6 2.7T

Do let me know what I should be looking for and testing out, any prominent caveats to this car??

I was looking at some that are about 40-45K mile son them and they are going in Chicagoland area for about 19-22K dollars. The CPOs are ofcourse at about 26-29K..

Any advice you give will be appreciated... thanks

Default Prices for the CPO cars sound a bit high...

I paid $26k for my 2001 A6 2.7T back in January with 36k miles, certified through July 2007 or 100k. You should be able to do better than that for a CPO car now.

Obviously, if the car looks well cared for, most likely the previous owner also took care of it mechanically, but you should try to get service records for the car. I have heard that you can have the dealer pull up the history by VIN, but it might only have the codes for service, not the text.

Best of luck in your shopping! Let us know what you decide!

just bought a 2001 A6 2.7T, 39,400 miles. Warranty still good till may '05 or 50k. Paid $20,900 through a broker at auction. Has everything except keyless entry and cold weather. This is in CA where prices might be higher? Sweet car. Might have had a front bumper replaced, color off. So if it's under warranty I figure I am safe? Hope so. Good Luck.

Default Sounds like a good price, but...

if you did a search for CPO cars on audiusa.com, I see ranges from $20k to $30k in the northeast. Seems like a huge range of prices. I would try to find a car that you can see, drive, and get some sense of service history.

Do a search on the web for other prices, keeping in mind that you are paying a premium for CPO because it adds 2 years and 50K miles to the original 4yr 50k warranty.

Happy shopping!!!

lets see... make sure turbos not making any strange noises, control arms, CV boots, brake rotors (been known to warp), auto tranny (shifts smoothly), synchros (if manual tranny)

For the CPO cars your prices are way too high. For a 2001 higher mileage (45k+) car that is fully optioned (luxury, premium, cold, sport) you should pay no more than $22-23. Adjust accordingly for lower mileage. I just bought a 2001 CPO 2.7T a couple of months ago and am very happy with it.

Default 2nd. Seen a gorgeous 2.7T for $24K+CPO 39K miles and a shabby one at my dealer with 48K miles and ..

stiker set at $28.5K
the firs car was in NJ
I'm in PA
run the history by VIN-any dealer can tell you where the car was originally purchased and that dealer will have history
good luck

I got one which was manufactured april '01 and delivered in june - it says on the original sticker that it was produced in Limited Quantities - came with 6 speed, 17" BBS, lowered susp, silver with grey leather sport interior, nav and parktronic, 42k miles, paid $20k 6 months ago - still had a year left on warranty/free service - looks way better than 16" 4X4 models (older sport models)
