alternator help please...

Battery light came on and stays on...on my 99 A-6Q 2.8 and need to replace alternator. I am mechanical and have done some work on this car already, but would like to know how difficult is this job and how long should it take? Any hints for access? I appreciate your help! Mark

You might try a search and see what comes up. Also check if it's just the regulator

(usually a grey or black plastic box on the rear of alternator) instead of replacing the entire unit, you might only have to replace a $30 part.

Piece of cake once you bring the front end into the service position. Do a search so

you can know how to bring the front structure holding the radiator forward so you can access the front of the motor. Thats what they mean by service position.

Thanks, but you must be kidding...remove wheels, a bunch of bumper and facsia trim....then bumper, then "special" tools, then an upper frame member? Wow, I'll do it Alldata's way, from underneath...and suffer a few scratched knuckles. No wonder Audi dealers charge so much for normally simple proceedures. It's an alternator.....not a head-gasket. My f-350 4x4 is easier to work on....lol. Thanks
