I know it will play WAV files and I hear that it WON'T play MP3s. The manual doesn't present that type of info.

I have an '02 A4 with the BOSE (in-dash changer)...not sure if that is the same or not, but it would not play MP3's (no decoder).

I could be mistaken though (but I doubt it )!

Plenty of other options open to you, though.

Default I think they are similar units (both are Bose). WMA files are more compressed than MP3..

and you can download them from web sites just like MP3s.

Ah...I would still think there needs to be a decoder in addition to the laser circuitry that was reading both CD audio and data (MP3s, WMAs, AIFs, WAVs, etc.).

Correction in previous post...I HAD the A4, now have the '01 A6 that barely plays regular CD's at all...haha.

Default I just burned a test disc. Our players WILL play WMA files on CDs burned by a computer..

Thanks for your help. This needs to go into Stoney's Links. WMA file was recorded at sampling rate of 44kHz, 128kbps (CD quality). In a previous post, I was wrong. WMA's are MORE compressed but slightly better sound than MP3s.

Default Why not PhatNoise?

It's a great system and plugs right in where the CD Changer goes in the trunk. It's on sale through Audi for $399 right now.

Default My DVD player for the video system is in that slot. See "my photos."

I only burn CDs a few times a year and have never downloaded music. I checked out a music site last night and may start to collect some tunes that way.

Default I don't know how many but a typical length song was 31MB in a cd quality WAV file

and only 3.1MB in a WMA file. I haven't burned a complete disc yet but I usually get about 18 songs on an 800MB cd in WAV format. I guess 80 songs sounds about right for a disc of WMA files. I hadn't planned to download that many.

Default I'm adding a phatbox myself.....I like have 5,000+ songs at my fingertips....

I looked at your pix...actually if you move some of that hardware that is above your DVD player...you can slot the phatbox just above it.

Those of us that have added a phatbox....have not looked back. It's like have a CD changer with 2,000 CD's in it....however, you can search and select the songs by artist, genre, playlist etc. The best part...is it gives you voice announcements so you can actually hear the name of your artist, playlist etc. For $350...you can't go wrong.

The only thing that is timeconsuming is ripping all of your home CD's to MP3 on you PC. YOu can download the PhatNoise Music Manager s/w for free to start the process. On average, each CD will take 2-4 minutes to rip. I tend to rip about 10 per night.

The PhatBox is selling for around $350-$400...you can't go wrong when you have a Sym II head unit.

Good luck!
