2000 2.7T tire different diameter question
Just purchased and drove to Washington from Los Angeles. Noticed right rear tire was a goodyr eagle, and others were conti contacts. Also noticed treadwear on eagle was greater. So I took measurements after verifying same 30#pressure in each tire. All contis tread = 0.26 (8/32)", goodyear= 0.144 (4.6/32)". Measuring from floor to top of wheel stud cover (effective radius measurement) LF 14 1/2",RF 14 9/16, LR 14 5/8+, RR (GOODYR) 14 3/4". The surprise is that the fronts were ~1/16 different even tho identical, but the rears are different (and greater than fronts due to weight?) from each other by ~1/8. This says tires have variation - I have never measured this before because I never had the question.
So the question is did I do harm to the vehicle with 1300miles at 75mph+? Should I do some sort of fluid change? Can I buy 2 new contis they will likely have ~0.375 (12/32)" tread or 2/32 more than the others, and where should I put them (front/back)? Or should I buy all new tires?
I searched the threads and didn't find a good answer to this. Any suggestions? Thanks
Also be sure your tires pressures are checked frequently as temp changes can change them a lot.
Anything over 3% is considered beyond the ability of Torsen to cope over the long term. If your car is a late model with ESP, the ESP can be thrown off as well as the ABS.
